WENDY’S FOUNDER DAVE THOMAS MET HIS WIFE, LORRAINE BUSKIRK, IN 1953 WHILE THEY WERE BOTH WORKING AT THE HOBBY HOUSE RESTAURANT IN FORT WAYNE, IN. THEY MARRIED IN 1954.

Lorraine was the matriarch of the Wendy’s family and the heart and soul of our brand. She lent her name, time and financial contributions to organizations that she believed in and leaves a legacy of philanthropy that continues to inspire us today.

She dedicated her life to those in need, particularly the thousands of children and families she helped through her charitable contributions. Lorraine shared Dave’s vision to create the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® with one goal – to ensure that every child in foster care has a permanent home and a loving family. She passionately advocated for children in foster care and actively volunteered her time and support towards foster care adoption in North America.

Lorraine was also the unshakable foundation of the Thomas family, including her five children, 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Lorraine and Dave were married in 1954 and remained devoted to each other for 47 years, until Dave’s death in 2002. Dave called Lorraine his greatest source of support, and credited her love and sacrifice as reasons he was able to become such a success.

“Lorraine was such a great support for me, and such a model parent. As a parent, I really didn’t have any role models. Lorraine came from a really strong family. As a result, she knew what to do, and she did it.”

We will miss Lorraine, but she provided us with decades of cherished contributions and memories that will last for years to come.
